UKRAINE VIGIL

March 9, 2022

The University of South Dakota is supporting fellow Ukraine student, Oleksandra Lukina and professor, Ruslan Podviianiuk.

The Ukrainian flag stayed on the Legacy Statue for the week.

The Vermillion City Council declared a proclamation in support of Ukrainians the night of the vigil. The downtown tree accent lights are shining blue and yellow to show support in different ways.

The hearts that were passed out during the gathering are still shown around campus. Cards with a link to a support Ukraine website were also passed out.

The University will continue to show support in many ways.

COLLEGE OVER MENTAL HEALTH

Episode 3 -  December 6, 2021

This is a podcast about the mental health of students on college campuses. In this episode, I talk with Jacob Johnson, a counselor at the University of South Dakota. Some students may be nervous to go to a counselor, Johnson says that’s a common thing in students. Johnson explains that counseling doesn’t have to be looked at as someone telling you how to fix your life but can be seen as talking to someone who doesn’t know you and won’t judge. Anxiety and depression are common illnesses among students. As a college student myself, I’ve benefited from talking to a counselor. Check out my last episode where I talk about my story with mental health.

THEN FEED JUST ONE

October 28, 2021

Then Feed Just One is a non-profit organization that focuses on world hunger. The group's mission is to end world hunger. One way they do this is by holding an annual packing event. Members of the group and other students volunteer their time to pack bags that feed six people. The group's goal this year was to pack 30,000 meals. TFJO and volunteers were able to pack 33,264 meals. Their Twitter (https://twitter.com/usdtfjo) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/usdtfjo/?igshid=6a1h5sclgqvs) show behind the scenes of their most recent packing event. Click here to learn more details about TFJO on my Twitter page.
